How can you help your dog with ear infections?

I’ve a female Labrador retriever with a yeast infection in her ear. This is the second one she has had in six months. She was examined by a vet and given eardrops. Is there anything I can do to prevent ear infections in the future? What is the fastest way to get the infection under control?

The best way to prevent ear infections would be to clean your dog’s ears thoroughly once a week using an appropriate ear cleanser. This is extremely important especially to dry the ears after a shower. If the ear infection recurs it is best to have a culture of the infection done at the vet clinic. This would enable the right medications to be prescribed. Proper and timely application of the medication prescribed should suffice. Dog’s ears are L shaped, and it is in the L corner that ear debris tends to collect. Be careful to clean the part of the ear canal that can be seen and not any further down the canal. It could cause the ear debris to collect more than help to remove the debris.
